Both Abrasive Flow Machining (AFM) and Electrochemical Deburring (ECD) are used in the manufacture of precision hydraulic and servo control systems components. Valve spools have a burr-free requirement for their many crossholes, but must retain sharp corners along the metering edges. AFM provides positive removal of grinding burrs without producing out of print edge break.
Housings and bodies contain difficult to access internal intersections. ECD automatically erodes away burrs and radiuses the edges along intersections. Removed material is converted into fine hydroxide powder, which is flushed out of the cavities by the salt electrolyte.
